🌺 News from MaureenAstrid - June 2021 🌺

Hello my dear journaling friend,

Can you believe it is June already? Time seems to go a bit more quickly at the moment. It has been a little while since I've been in touch with you, so I thought I'd give you a little peek inside my craft room. This is what has been going on in my room these past weeks.

🌸 Making small collages

I'm really enjoying making these simple collages. With only a few elements, yet always with a sentiment - of course ;-) I even challenged myself to use a color I rarely use: red... When I posted it on IG one of my followers was lauging, saying she had to go look for the red... πŸ˜‚ while for me it sort of sticks out like a big blob of red. It is the one on the lower right.

Do you have a color you don't really like? Do you then once in a while challenge yourself to use it anyway, even if it is the tiniest sliver of that color? Maybe have a go at it, I found the result rather pleasing and that surprised me.

And what about the page on the lower left? I hand stitched those white stems, then stenciled the little flowers at the top. So lovely to do that. I really enjoyed that. It is fun and easy, no rules just make some wobly lines πŸ˜Š

🌸 A large spread and new die cuts

Other than making small collages, I made a large one (the top left photo, with the purples and browns) in my A4 size junkjournal. Limiting the number of papers I used - there were only 2 sheets at the start - and making only one shape - rectangles cut out with childrens scissors - it became almost meditative to cut and stick down the background layer. After that it was easier to go and get creative with the other layers. I came across an older printable bundle which fitted just perfectly with the background colors and then I had that gorgeous bird cut out. I took my time completing the page. I even glued new elements over the top of other elements I added earlier, that I didn't like... which I never do, for some reason πŸ€” but this time I did it and I'm glad I did. It made the collage much prettier.

When I was thinking of what kind of elements I wanted to add more often to my journal pages I came to die cuts. Now, I do have some dies, but I felt I could use some more nature themed ones. So I treated myself to a lovely set -  on the lower left. Putting them to use to make a journal card was a lot of fun. I took some bright, colorful paper with watercolor images on it. Then I covered the card in pieces of ripped book pages, on top of which I glued the cut out leaves. I used decoupage glue for that, the best kind for this type of collage I think. That sentiment with the dark background really completes it, don't you agree?

🌸 The best thing for a rainy day

The wheather has only very recently changed to sunny spring here in the Netherlands. I seems like the whole of May was just filled with rain, strong wind and cold... But, you have to make the best of what you get, right? So I took some days to make a new stash of tea dyed papers πŸ˜„ They turned out really yummie & grungy. I will use these in a new journal, that I will show you in one of the next newsletters.

😊 I hope this gives you inspiration

Maybe the photos in this newsletter give you some inspiration to go and get creative in your craft room too. I really hope so. For me, seeing other people create is one of the things that get me going too. You sort of need that fresh look, seeing new things or just things you've seen many times before but in a slightly different way.

Besides that, still being on my path of recovery from my burn out, there is only one thing that is important: no pressure. It doesn't have to be 'pretty', I don't have to create elaborate, intricate, innovative things. Because, yes that was kind off what I had in my head al the time before I realised I was heading the 'wrong way', into my burn out. Just me, a bit of time, some nice papers & some glue. That is it. And doing that gives me fresh energy and a sense of joy.

My energy levels are really improving the last few weeks, which makes me very grateful. That my mind and body can recover when I give them the well deserved rest & nurturing. Feeling more rested, I dipped into making digitals, that I intended to use only for myself. They worked out so beautifully though that I couldn't just keep them on my computer. So... there are 2 new bundles in the shop. I really hope you like them 😊. It is very special to find out that the 'magic' of creating digitals still happens for me, so that is what I want to share with you too. After hitting rock bottom you can bounce back.

🌸 What did I use in my collages?

So, the top 2 ones are the new bundles. The ones on the bottom row are the 2 bundles that I used for the large collage with the purples.
